Sustainability at KS Service Center: Our Initiatives in 2024
At KS Service Center, we are continuously committed to a more sustainable future. In 2024, we have taken various initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a circular economy. Below is an overview of the key steps we have taken in the field of sustainability.
One of the first steps we have taken is making our logistics chain as sustainable as possible. For example, we have switched to biodiesel for our fleet, which significantly reduces our CO₂ emissions. In addition, we continue to explore innovative transport solutions, such as delivering coils by train. By transporting goods by rail instead of by road, we save 40 truck trips per week. This significantly lowers our emissions and makes our logistics chain even more efficient.
We also actively work with the CO₂ Performance Ladder, for which we are certified at level 3. The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a sustainability management system that helps reduce emissions within our organization and across the supply chain. It enables us to implement structural improvements in sustainability.
In addition to optimizing transport and collaboration, we are also taking concrete steps towards circularity. We invest in more sustainable steel and production processes while promoting reuse and recycling to reduce waste streams.
Our energy consumption has been made more sustainable in two key steps. First, we installed solar panels at our production facility in Moerdijk, allowing us to generate part of our own energy needs. The remaining energy we require is sourced from a green energy supplier. This ensures that our total energy consumption is CO₂-free.
Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thanks to our sustainability initiatives, we have reached an important milestone by obtaining certification on the CO₂ Performance Ladder, confirming that we are on the right track. Additionally, we collaborate with partners such as Anera, a supplier of steel mezzanine floors, to develop innovative and circular solutions that add both economic and ecological value.
Finally, we continue to monitor our progress and share our insights on our website through new updates on the CO₂ Performance Ladder. In these updates, we analyze our progress and explore new sustainable innovations that we can implement. With these initiatives, we strengthen our commitment to sustainability and continue to innovate to minimize our environmental impact.
